Nuwara Eliya – Kandy

Next, we will leave for Kandy the last capital of the Singala monarchy (82 Km / 03.00h). Along the way we will stop to see the Ramboda cataracts.

Upon arrival in Kandy, we will go to the hotel to check in at the selected hotel.

Then, we will visit the city. Kandy was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings and is a World Heritage Site. The name “Kandy” evokes visions of splendour and magnificence. Many of the legends, traditions and folklore still remain alive in this city. We will then make our passage around Lake Kandy which was built by the last Sinhalese king Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe in 1798.

In the evening we will visit the Dalada Maligawa, the Temple of the Holy Tooth of the Buddha. At around 19:00 p.m. we will attend the Pooja ceremony, a religious tradition that is carried out daily by the Maligawa. Lastly we will visit “Raja Wasala”, a complex of the Royal Palace whose hall of wooden pillars dates from 1784.

Every afternoon, the Buddha Tooth relic takes to the streets of the city accompanied by dozens of dancers, acrobats, musicians and even elephants.
