Weligama – Galle

AM: Departure to Colombo by the coastal road.

Along the way, visit to Weligama to observe these famous fishermen arts.

Visit the Portuguese Fort of Galle, a city located in the southwest of Sri Lanka, 119 km far from Colombo. The present city of Galle was the port of ancient Tharsis, where, according to the Bible, the Hebrew King Solomon used to send his men so that they could bring ivory and peacocks.

The city of Galle was known as Gimhathiththa (then Ibn Battuta in the fourteenth century referred to it as Qali) before the arrival of the Portuguese in the 16th century, when it was the main port of the island of Ceylon. Galle had its peak in the century XVIII, before the arrival of the British, that enhanced the development of Colombo.
